A rare opportunity to view figurative sculptures from the perspective of women artists, the works in this exhibit propose a spirited, poetic voyage between the conscious and the subconscious. On view are Canadian sculptor Kathy Venter’s suspended life-size clay figures under water, Christin Nelson’s arresting compositions of body parts, Jane Burton’s tall cocoon-like shell figures, Nina Lyons’ haunting representations of women melding with their animal counterparts and Virginia Maksymowicz’ installation referencing women’s role in a world built by men.

“Stories Left Behind” encompasses a series of large-scaled (4’ to 20’), hand-built ceramic sculptures that explore the vessel as a container shaped by the life within. I am intrigued with objects that hold life... the shell of the hermit crab, the cocoon of the butterfly, the human body. Over the layers of time they hold the story of the life that resides within. The vessels remain as life moves on, leaving their stories behind.
